Resident Directed Care
Care is resident – directed, which means residents will be in charge of when and what they eat and when they go to bed at night and get up in the morning. At The Cottages, each person’s care and environmental needs are unique, and we strive to make residents feel as though the cottage is their home.
The Companion Model
The philosophy of care at the Cottages at Brushy Creek is termed the “companion model,” and is based on the idea that most of us have companions at home but that companionship is often lost when the transition is made to a nursing home.
The companion model seeks to provide residents with the comfort and security of having someone dedicated to assisting them with bathing and dressing, as well as do their cooking, cleaning and laundry, and plan activities to keep their minds and bodies active.

Greenville Hospital System has a long history of serving the people of upstate South Carolina. Greenville’s first public hospital was established in 1912 to meet the health needs of a small but thriving city. As the area’s population and healthcare needs increased, the hospital expanded over the years and became the nation’s first health system in 1952. In those years, the health system concept of healthcare delivery was ahead of its time, and Greenville Hospital System has remained at the forefront of healthcare delivery.
Today, Greenville Hospital System is one of the largest locally operated, publicly accountable health systems in the Southeast, as well as an academic teaching and research center. As a not-for-profit community health system, Greenville Hospital System is directed by a board of volunteers made up of 12 members representing Greenville County, as well as two seats that are outside of the county.
