Greer is the 16th largest municipality in the state of South Carolina and is the third largest city in Greenville and Spartanburg Counties. Between 1990 and 2000 the City of Greer lead the state in rate of population growth by posting a 63 percent population increase. The population for the City of Greer in 2008 was 54,730 and is projected to reach 61,117 residents by 2015.

In 2000 the median age in Greer was 33.7, which was a decrease from the level of 34.9 in 1990. The Greer area has experienced a significant increase in the number of Hispanic residents.
