The City of Greer and the Upstate are experiencing a flurry of new retail developments that include restaurants, retail, grocery stores, convenience stores, shopping centers, and home improvement stores. Greer’s retail market is broken into two distinct areas: The Central Business District and The Greater Greer Community.
Central Business District – Greer Station
The Central Business District in Greer, South Carolina is known as Greer Station. This theme identifies the downtown area that was first developed around the railroad depot. This area is a vibrant market and is full of renewed energy. The Greer Station area also includes over 40 buildings on the National Historic Register.
Over the last six years revitalization efforts have sparked renewed interest in downtown and a number of new retail, new service-related businesses and restaurants have opened or are planning to open in the near future. Currently there are over 90 businesses located in Greer Station. Since early 2002, there have been over 30 new businesses that have located in the area. This trend will continue as more and more people realize the opportunities the downtown presents and how this is truly becoming a ‘niche’ destination for many people.
Greater Greer Community
The Greater Greer Community has a thriving retail market. Wade Hampton Blvd (US Hwy 29) runs through Greer from Greenville to Spartanburg and is the community's major commercial corridor. Along Wade Hampton Blvd there are numerous restaurants, hotels, shops, car dealerships, service centers and large national retailers such as Staples, Home Depot, Lowe's and Wal-Mart. The North Hampton Market, a 30 million dollar development, opened recently with retailers including Target, Hobby Lobby, Pet Smart, Hibbett Sports along with many other restaurants and smaller retail stores.
The newly built Greer Medical Campus on S. Buncombe road near Hwy 14 hosts a new hospital, an outpatient and diagnostic center, a long-term care facility, a retirement center, medical offices, a wellness center and other necessary medical services. Spartanburg Regional Health Care also has a new 100+ acre campus off of Hwy 14 near I-85.
